Why Wearing Underwear When Swimming is Bad For You

Posted by 5D Digital Collaborator on

Do you wear underwear with your swim shorts? It's a debate that many people have, and you'll find forums and discussions on it all over the internet. It might not be something you've thought about before, either because for you, it's just normal not to wear underwear with your swimming shorts, or because you do and have never questioned it. But we're here to tell you that you don't need to and here's why:

Swimming isn't good for your underwear

Okay, if you fall in a pool or take a quick dip with underwear on then, it will survive, but if you're wearing it every time you swim, the water will end up causing serious damage to your underwear. This is because chlorine destroys color and damages the fibers of the clothing. Even in the sea, salt replaces chlorine and has the same effect.

Swimming shorts are designed for swimming

Swimming shorts are made of certain types of material that are suitable for water use. These types of materials can withstand pool chemicals such as chlorine. They also absorb less water and dry out faster. Swimwear are specifically made to eliminate the need for wearing underwear.

Tucann Trunks and shorts are built-in with inner mesh lining or padding in the crotch area, which acts as a substitute for underwear.

Underwear Is Bad for the Pool

It's not just bad for your underwear, but if you wear it in the pool, then the cotton fibers will break apart in chlorinated water. When this happens, they have to be processed by the pool filter; if you and other people are wearing underwear in the pool regularly, then this could destroy the pool's filter. Also, if you wear cotton in the pool, then you'll be adding bacteria and other microbes into the water, which can affect it.

You Can't Swim Well In Underwear

Normal underwear will also absorb a large amount of water, which increases drag and makes swimming more difficult. You'll be slower and heavier in the water and also added to that your underwear would take much longer to dry.

It's not good for your health

Having too much clothing and clothing that is too tight around the groin area isn't good for you. Restrictive clothing around the groin area could lead to urinary tract infections leading to over-activity of the bladder- a type of bladder weakness as well as a low sperm count and fungal infections. Make sure you leave plenty of room around the groin area and that your swim shorts feel comfortable, so you're not being restricted in any way.

So, choose your swim shorts wisely; make sure you're covered and protected, but at the same time, you need room to breathe and to be comfortable. You don't need underwear underneath your swim shorts, just simply choose a decent pair of trunks and enjoy your swim.
